Dear Ms. Chisholm: Thank you so much for coming to our school. The Brooke students and staff truly enjoyed your presentation about the myths and facts surrounding the wolf. So often we hear phrases like “the big, bad wolf,” “a wolf in sheep’ clothing,” and “wolves at our door,” and we hear countless stories as children in which wolves are mean, cunning killers. Thanks to you, our faculty and students have a more realistic picture of wolves, their character, and their role in nature. Bringing Chiwauka “to assist” in your presentation was, to quote the students, “just too cool.” In the eyes of the students, her presence gave your words validity and gave the presentation real meaning. As soon as students saw a real North American Timber Wolf, uncaged and within their reach, their attention was focused on every word you said and every move Chiwauka made. They couldn’t wait to ask questions and pet the wolf. The students were so excited about the presentation, they wrote stories, journal entries, and letters about their experience. They wanted to learn and read more about wolves, and they talked about what they had learned for days. The fifth grade class even decided to make you foundation the focus of their service project. They plan to make trail mix for Chiwauka and her friends, and they are looking forward to delivering their gift in person. Your presentation did more to inspire the students than any story or textbook could have done.
